What is MRCPsych?

MRCPsych (Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists) is a globally recognised postgraduate qualification awarded by the Royal College of Psychiatrists, UK. It is designed for doctors pursuing specialist training and career advancement in psychiatry. The examination assesses a candidate’s understanding of psychiatric theory, clinical application, communication skills, and evidence-based mental healthcare practice.

StudyMRCPsych by StudyMEDIC offers a structured and strategic MRCPsych preparation pathway for MRCPsych aspirants through expert mentorship, comprehensive learning resources, mock examinations, and focused revision programs tailored to the latest exam pattern.

Eligibility

Candidates must possess a primary medical degree such as MBBS or an equivalent qualification. Psychiatry training is not mandatory to appear for Paper A.

Exam Structure

The CASC (Clinical Assessment of Skills and Competencies) is the final clinical component of the MRCPsych exam pathway. It is an OSCE-style practical assessment designed to evaluate clinical reasoning, communication skills, patient interaction, risk assessment, and psychiatric management abilities in simulated clinical scenarios.

The examination consists of 16 stations conducted across linked and individual scenarios, where candidates interact with simulated patients and examiners under timed conditions. The CASC assesses a candidate’s ability to apply psychiatric knowledge safely and effectively in real-world clinical practice.
